We will provide interested tenants with a free ‘Edible Pennine’ starter pack, complete with easy to follow instructions. The packs include:

• Seed potatoes and grow sacks
• Strawberry hanging baskets
• Tomato hanging baskets
• Tomato grow-bags or single pots for window bottoms
• Lettuce pots
• Mini allotment sacks for groups of tenants wanting to develop a community veg patch
• Seed potatoes, strawberry and tomato plants for tenants with their own garden.
We also want to hear from groups of tenants who would like to develop a community orchard
or herb gardens, which anyone can pick, on spare Pennine land.
Tenant involvement manager Val Morris, said: “Growing your own saves money and
encourages kids to eat fresh fruit and vegetables.
Here are just a few of the many reasons why it’s a great idea to grow your own:
• You can grow without pesticides
• Children learn about good food
• You decide what your family eats
• It gives a sense of achievement
• Your food will be totally local
• It’s good for the environment
• It’s easy and fun!“
It’s a great way to enjoy tastier food as you can grow for flavour – commercial growers grow for shelf life.”Anyone interested in a free Edible Pennine grow your own pack, or in joining volunteers to develop a community orchard or herb garden, is invited to leave a message with their name and phone number on 01422 824362.
